My name is Milena Xochitl Gonzalez. I am a Filipina Mexican American woman in tech working at Xbox as a Product Manager on developer tooling for the Game Streaming platform. I am the proud granddaughter of farmworkers and immigrants, descendent of indígenas, and a graduate Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an engineering university with a 70:30 male to female ratio where I was one of the few women in my class to earn a degree in Computer Science.
I am passionate about closing the disparities in tech related to race/ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status by lowering the barrier of entry to and expanding the accessibility of computer science and tech education. I have experience programming and in product management.
I love helping others break into tech whether it's finishing a computer science degree, getting into product management, or networking advice - I am a huge believer in paying it forward!
Check out the club I started! Our Saturday classes were my happy place in college. I loved hosting coding&&community events for students in the local area of Troy, New York. I love helping kids solve their programming issues and watching their eyes light up as they discover new things. The best part is family day at the end of each semester where our students get to show off their projects and blow their parents away.
I love community outreach! Especially through STEM
I was involved in SHPE in a number of ways, mosty in their outreach programs where we served underrepresented HS students from all over the state
SHPE FamiliaAs a member of the 39th Annual NSBE/SHPE Career Fair Staff, I helped coordinate and manage the largest student run career fair in the country. The summer prior, I worked with a team to organize a reception for over 200 recruiters.
Read MoreI coordinated with other student organizations and campus departments to develop and plan co-curricular events of interest to students. I also acted as RPI Mentor for incoming freshman girls to better help them adjust to college--specifically a polytechnic with such a skewed gender ratio.
